Here for sale is Fender Competition Mustang 1971 Lake Placid Blue Vintage Bass Guitar and the Original Fender Hard Shell case.

This Competition Mustang vintage basses are extremely sought after. The bass has the most desirable finish in a gorgeous Lake Placid Blue with the lighter blue racing stripes. The bass sounds like only a classic vintage Fender can with a beautiful fast and easy short-scale neck. The short-scale neck has gained massive popularity due to it’s a guitar like scale length. Which is extremely comfortable to hold and is nice and lightweight. Everything appears correct and original and it still has the original pickguard. The pickguard has had some shrinkage due to age which has pulled on a couple of the screws. This has cracked around the screw holes at the bottom of the guard and on lower bought.

The lower pick up is also tilting slightly due to the shrinking pickguard This is unfortunate sometimes with these old guards due to the plastics used, it appears it has been attached to the body to stop the movement. The good thing is it has put all the electronics in time capsule state and prevented anybody from removing them. A professional guitar tech could carefully remove the old pickguard and put on a new one if desired, but there is some vintage mojo in its current set up.

The guitar has play wear but this aged Lake Placid Blue paint is like a work of art, in its slight discoloured areas and finish checking. It is very enchanting you could just sit and look at all the detailing on the patina, it’s wonderful! The hardshell case is in fair condition internally except for a slight stain and has that great red plush interior. The handle is missing but could easily be replaced but the latches are working. A truly wonderful player and amazing piece, the creme de la creme of the Fender Mustang basses.

Please note all guitars are sold as seen. We try our best to show the condition of the guitar in the photos but this is not always possible to every detail. Each guitar is set up to the shop standard playing style and as we all know; each player is different. If it is not set up to your liking this is not a cause for complaint, as is finding some kind of imperfection that we may or may not have mentioned. We sell used guitars not museum pieces and we do not accept returns unless they have been damaged in transit. If you are looking for a perfect guitar that you will worry about damaging and hang on the wall we advise you to buy new! So be rock n roll! lml
