Fender Stratocaster Olympic White 1986 Kurt Cobain Strat Japan Nirvana Guitar + Case

Out of stock

Here for sale is a Fender Stratocaster 1986 in Olympic White made in Japan. This guitar is the same model as played by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who favoured Japanese Fender Stratocasters which he used throughout his career.

They are rare and sought after, especially the ones from the 1980’s and early ’90’s. This Stratocaster is all original, including the original pick ups. It also has Gotoh tuning keys installed which Kurt also had installed on his Stratocasters and liked these tuning keys so much he had them installed on his famous Sunburst Jaguar. Kurt like these white Fender Stratocasters he had at least four of them. This model is the same as one as the single ply pick guard Fender Stratocaster he used at the Seattle Coliseum on 11th September 1992. His first white Stratocaster which he obtained in 1990 and they were used heavily up until the end of 1992.  Kurt’s white Stratocaster from the Seattle Centre Coliseum with the single ply pick guard can be seen in person at the EMP Experience Music Project in Seattle. Other notable appearances of his White Stratocasters include the back of the Smells Like Teen Spirit single shot at the Vancouver Commodore Ballroom and the 1992 MTV music awards where the band played the intro to Rape Me to offend the censors before bursting into Lithium.

This Fender Stratocaster comes with a vintage 1980’s case with a cool yellow/ amber lining and is period correct. This Stratocaster weighs approx 3.630KG and is very comfortable to play and hold. The approximate measurements are as follows, the nut width is 42.32mm / 1.666″ wide, the depth of the neck at the first fret is 20.99mm / 0.8265″ and 23.29mm / 0.917″ at the 12th fret. It has a C shape neck profile with a 7.25″ vintage style radius. The frets are 1.96mm / 0.077″ wide and 1.03mm / 0.0405″ deep. The guitar weighs approx 3.630KG.

The guitar is in good condition for it’s age, it has fantastic build quality as you would expect from Fender Japan. It has a few dings and scratches as you would expect from such a great player. There is a couple of small dings on the front and the back of the guitar and hairline finish crack in the neck pocket which is common with Fender guitars. This all adds to the guitar’s mojo and gives it more rock ‘n’ roll character. Overall it is in great shape, with a lovely C shape Rosewood neck. The pick ups have a great sound, Kurt actually used his first White Stratocaster stock for the 1990 European tour but it can easily be upgraded to the Seymour Duncan hotrail to capture the sound of his later Strat’s. . You can see why Kurt opted for these Stratocasters as they are timeless and extremely versatile.
