The Fender Jag Stang is a unique melding of the top of a Fender Jaguar and the bottom of a Fender Mustang. Kurt Cobain played a Fender Jag Stang on tour in 1993 and 1994. Kurt Cobain designed the Jag Stang in conjunction with Fender Custom Shop. Fender sent out the Sonic Blue Jag Stang to him for the in Utero tour, and used it more and more as the tour went on. The Fiesta Red Jag Stang was not finished and Fender had it ready to send to Kurt the week that he died and sadly never received it. They are truly great guitars, with a powerful rip roaring sound and have great looks to match. This is a Guitarsmith custom guitar where a Sonic Blue Fender Jag Stang was refinished in Shell Pink which really pops and has a cool looking mother of pearl pick-guard. This Jag Stang is in full working order and features two three-way selector switches for each pickup, so you can use them on their own or together in series or out of phase. It has one volume and one tone control and is a very versatile and rocking guitar. The neck is nice and slim and easy to play and the guitar is very comfortable to hold. The width of the nut is approx 4,065mm / 1600.3937″, the neck is 20.57mm / 0,80984252″, it has C shape neck contour, 7.25″ radius and the frets 1.99mm / 0.07834646″ wide and 1.33 deep / 0.0523622″. This Fender Jag Stang guitar weighs approx 3.490 KG. The guitar is in excellent condition for its age, and the refinish makes the guitar look like new. There is a slight ding on the top side of the headstock and a little ding on the back of the neck that do not effect playability. The headstock has ‘Designed by Kurt Cobain’ on the back of it. This Fender Jag Stang has a new Fender Mustang bridge assembly, a new Fender tremolo arm, a new Fender F stamped neck plate, a new Fender control plate and Fender control knobs, switch craft switches, 500K pots and and orange drop capacitor. The pick ups are a Seymour Duncan TB-4 JB trembucker in white in the bridge and a Fender Custom Shop neck pick up. These are the same pick ups that Kurt Cobain had installed in his Jag Stangs. They are a massive upgrade on the originals which are hotter and have more clarity, which bring out the guitars full potential. We have used the best components in the construction of this guitar at Guitarsmith Custom. The re-finish was expensive and has been done properly by a professional and if you did not know better you would think this was a factory finish. The colour is a great choice, as not only is the Shell Pink an extremely popular finish choice in Fender guitars and is often seen on Fender Custom Shop models, it also fits with the Nirvana history and a finish that Kurt Cobain very much liked. Back in 1990 Kurt Cobain put together two little known Fender Mustang copies which he painted himself, one was the Sonic Blue finish which is often associated with him and the other was in Shell Pink. It is highly likely that as Fender began sending him guitars later in his career, the Shell Pink finish would have turned up on his custom Mustangs. The Shell Pink is a great counterpoint to the Sonic Blue and makes a great matching pair. To have this finish on a Fender Jag Stang is a great bit of symbiosis. Footage of Kurt Cobain playing his Shell Pink Fender Mustang copy can be seen on youtube from their concert from the 16th February 1990 live at Bogart’s Long Beach California USA, where the band played a glorious set, Kurt switches to the Shell Pink Mustang for the last three songs, as this was his back guitar on several Bleach dates, and then ends up trashing it as was the way if the band was having a great gig. He then proceeded to hand the pieces to the crowd! This Fender Jag Stang is a highly collectible Fender and are becoming increasingly hard to come by and a great tribute to the late great Kurt Cobain with a special custom Shell Pink finish that takes the Jag Stang to another level of coolness. https://youtu.be/Sr5tRLWN_2s https://youtu.be/vnQYm0aYdz4
