Gretsch G6128T Duo Jet 1996 Gold Metaflake Guitar Ex Billy Corgan James Iha Smashing Pumpkins SOLD

Out of stock

Here for sale is a Gretsch G6128T Duo Jet 1996 Gold Metaflake that was previously owned by Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins who then gave the guitar to James Iha the lead guitarist of the the band circa 1996/1997 during the first tenure of the band.

This beautiful1996 Gretsch Duo Jet has the serial # 9611129-966, and is in a rare custom ordered Gold Metalflake, which is a stunning finish full of depth and sparkle, and reacts in different ways depending on the lighting. The guitar is masterfully built and has a smooth thin C shape type neck with a vintage feel. It has a pair of U.S. Pat. No. 2892371 pickups, which sound fantastic, for that classic Gretschy sound. The pick ups are controlled by a three way toggle switch and a master volume control on the lower horn, as well as a volume control for each pick up and the tone knob. This makes the guitar very versatile sonically. The fretboard has stylish inlays and a natural finish on the back where you can see the wonderful grain of the Mahogany which turns a nice Caramel hue in certain lights. The guitar is nice and light to play and hold and you can see why it was a favourite in the Smashing Pumpkins for live work and in the studio. The factory stock Bigsby is a joy to use and has that iconic look. The guitar has honest play wear as you would expect, there are no major dings or chips and just some scratches on the back of the body

Billy Corgan bought this guitar around 1996/ 1997 and then gifted it to James Iha who was the second guitarist in the band and one of the original members. It was used extensively right from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness era, to Ava Adore and then the Machina/ Machines of God tour which James Iha then left the band. At this point he give it to his close protection security guard who then sold it on. The guitar case was Stickered by Corgan and Iha and features a sticker by the band Flogging Molly who toured with the Smashing Pumpkins, as well as an E-Bow Sticker as well as a sticker from Rock Solid Recording in Cleveland Ohio where the band frequented. It also has the original Guitar identifier sticker on the side for all the touring guitars. The case has some wear from being on the road but is in fully functional shape and really adds to this piece. When the guitar came up for sale Billy Corgan even tweeted about it backing up its providence in classic sarcastic Billy Corgan fashion.

Billy Corgan tweeted that the guitar is a gift he bought for Iha.

You mean this guitar that I bought as a gift for James Iha? Or the other one? Zzzzzz

— Billy Corgan (@Billy)

It is a truly wonderful guitar which is also piece of rock history from one of the most popular bands to come from the 1990’s Alt Rock explosion, and a great guitar for any collector or player and of course fans of the Smashing Pumpkins.
