Fender Jag Stang 1996 Sonic Blue Left Handed Kurt Cobain Nirvana Guitar

Out of stock

Here for sale is a Fender Jag Stang in Sonic Blue from 1996 designed by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana with Fender and is the beyond rare and sought after left handed version which was only made during the initial run and are seldom seen.

The Fender Jag Stang is a unique melding of the top of a Fender Jaguar and the bottom of a Fender Mustang. Kurt Cobain played a Fender Jag Stang on tour in 1993 and 1994. Kurt Cobain designed the Jag Stang in conjunction with Fender Custom Shop. Fender sent out the Sonic Blue Jag Stang to him for the in Utero tour, and used it more and more as the tour went on. The Fiesta Red Jag Stang was not finished and Fender had it ready to send to Kurt the week that he died and sadly never received it. They are truly great guitars and sound badass with great looks to match. The Sonic Blue finish really pops and has a cool looking mother of pearl pick-guard. This Jag Stang is in full working order and features two three-way selector switches for each pickup, so you can use them on their own or together in series or out of phase. It has one volume and one tone control and is a very versatile and rocking guitar. The neck is nice and slim and easy to play and the guitar is very comfortable to hold. The width of the nut is approx 4,065mm / 1600.3937″, the neck is 20.57mm / 0,80984252″, it has C shape neck contour, 7.25″ radius and the frets 1.99mm / 0.07834646″ wide and 1.33 deep / 0.0523622″. This Fender Jag Stang guitar weighs approx 3.285KG.

The guitar is in excellent condition for its age, there are a couple of tiny chips on the very bottom side of the guitar, some play wear as you would expect from such a great guitar. The previous owner had a done a mod to the headstock where two small holes were drilled and some screw holes on the back. These have all been professionally refilled and lacquered. You could disguise the holes on the front by getting some fender decals to cover them but it gives it some character as is. Also a strap button was screwed on the top of the neck pocked but which has been removed and there is a small hole there. Importantly the designed by Kurt Cobain sticker is still present and intact. The previous owner had also scalloped a small area of the fretboard from the 12th fret to 22nd fret where the top B,E strings are for top of the neck noise making and bending the strings with out touching the fretboard completely but they can still be fretted comfortably and all the notes can be played. It is just a stylistic player mod and some players like it so much they have their whole fretboards modified this way such as Richie Blackmore from Deep Purple. You can still touch the fretboard underneath you just have to press down a little more in this area. It is fun to play and bend the notes with out touching the fretboard in this area and this mod has been professionally done. The top E,A,D, G strings are unaffected.

The guitar has been upgraded with a Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 the same pick up that Kurt had in his Fender Jag Stang’s. The guitar has also been upgraded with a Fender Texas Special in the neck position again the same one as Kurt Cobain had in his Jag Stang’s creating the exact same sounds as his legendary guitar. The other fantastic upgrade this guitar has had is the bridge has been replaced with a Gotoh type bridge for better stability and again the same as what Kurt had installed in his. The tailpiece has also been flipped so the strings run straight through with out going under neath the tail piece for ease of stringing the guitar and a better break angle over the bridge.   The pick guard is not original but a hi quality replacement from the USA. The switches are upgraded switch craft switches, and the control plate is not a original but an official Fender mustang plate flipped upside to fit the left handed Jag Stang. The original parts are not included as we no longer have them. The volume and tone pots have been upgraded with 500K pots for an improved sound with better higher frequency response and sonic depth. The Jag Stang is a highly collectible Fender and are becoming increasingly hard to come by and this is the highly sought after left handed version and a great tribute to the late great Kurt Cobain.
